Each week through the regular season, the Austin Sports Journal will poll readers to select the Austin Area High School Volleyball Player of the Week. Voting begins Thursday morning and ends Friday at noon.

The winner will be announced first in our Saturday e-edition newspaper available exclusively to subscribers beginning Oct. 1, 2024.

Nominations are taken from coaches submissions and box scores available on MaxPreps. Coaches are encouraged to send in nominations on Wednesday mornings each week to madams@austinsportsjournal.com. Only nominations for coaches will be accepted.

This week’s nominees are:

Ava Carrasquillo, Vandegrift: The junior setter had 29 assists to go with four digs, three kills and two service aces in the Vipers’ win over Westwood Tuesday. Against Vista Ridge, she had 45 assists to go with 11 digs, five blocks and five aces.

Hannah Griffin, Liberty Hill: The freshman outside hitter had 11 kills with a .417 hitting percentage in the Panthers win over Lehman on Tuesday. In Liberty Hill’s win over Hays, Griffin had 13 kills with a .423 hitting percentage to go with one block.

Amelia Robinson, Llano: The senior outside hitter had 45 kills with a .361 hitting percentage to go with three service aces, seven blocks and 12 digs in the Yellowjackets’ win over Ingram Moore. On Friday in Llano’s win over Comfort, Robinson had 32 kills, 12 digs and three blocks.

Caylee Mejia, Weiss: The senior had 32 kills with a .438 hitting percentage to go with 15 digs in the Wolves’ win over Georgetown on Friday. On Tuesday, Mejia had 13 kills, seven digs and two blocks in a win over Pflugerville.

Alta Wilson, Round Rock: The junior outside hitter had 19 kills with a .372 hitting percentage to go with three blocks in the Dragons’ win over Stony Point Tuesday. In Friday’s win over Cedar Ridge, Wilson had 17 kills with a .257 hitting percentage to go with nine digs.
