Wimberley outside hitter Laney Hennessee was voted the first Austin Sports Journal Austin-area Volleyball Player of the Week for Aug. 12-17.

With 36.1% of the vote, Hennessee edged out Georgetown’s Addison Gaido (19.7%), Dripping Springs’ Henley Anderson (17.6%), Liberty Hill’s Taylor Gaines (13.8%) and Austin High’s Riley Malloy (12.8%) .

Hennessee helped the undefeated Texans win the TexFest Tournament and was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player. The Texans are playing in the Glen Rose Tournament this weekend.

The Austin Sports Journal will hold votes each week for the football and volleyball players of the week throughout the season.

Voting for the Football Player of the Week will open every Monday and close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, starting September 3. The winner will be announced on Thursdays.
