Vote for this week’s volleyball player of the week (9/19)

Each week through the regular season, the Austin Sports Journal will poll readers to select the Austin Area High School Volleyball Player of the Week. Voting begins Thursday morning and ends Friday at noon.

The winner will be announced first in our Saturday e-edition newspaper available exclusively to subscribers beginning Oct. 1, 2024.

Nominations are taken from coaches submissions and box scores available on MaxPreps. Coaches are encouraged to send in nominations on Wednesday mornings each week to madams@austinsportsjournal.com. Only nominations for coaches will be accepted.

This week’s nominees are:

Lexi Ankerstar, Round Rock: The Dragons senior setter had back-to-back triple doubles, including a 10 kill, 17 dig and 24 assist performance on Tuesday in Round Rock’s win over Westwood. In a loss to Vista Ridge, Ankerstar put down 16 kills, 14 digs and 31 assists. In both games she had seven service aces.

Lexi Rosenblatt, McCallum:  The Knights’ junior setter had a combined triple double in wins over LASA and Navarro. Rosenblatt had a total 42 assists, 10 service aces, 11 digs, three blocks and seven kills for first-place McCallum.

Zaniah Hoskins, Buda Johnson: In the Jaguars only game this past week, the senior outside hitter had 25 kills to go with a .391 hitting percentage, four digs and a block Johnson’s win over San Marcos.

Chloe Kelly, Westlake: The junior outside hitter had a team-high 16 kills with a .250 hitting percentage to go with 11 digs in the Chaparrals’ win over Austin High. In Westlake’s win over Del Valle this past Friday, Kelly put down a team-high eight kills to go with four digs.

Jennavee Jensen, Vista Ridge: The Rangers’ junior outside hitter had back-to-back double doubles in wins over Round Rock and Cedar Ridge. Against the Dragons, Jensen had a match-high 21 kills to go with 10 digs, three service aces and two blocks. In Tuesday’s win over Cedar Ridge, Jensen had 10 kills and 11 digs to go with four service aces.
