This weekend’s UIL soccer state tournament signaled a changing of the gaurd in the power structure for high school soccer across Texas.

Following a tournament that saw the Austin-San Antonio area produce four state champions, five state finalists and 10 semifinalists, local talent was heavily featured on the UIL all-tournament teams, as selected by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches (TASCO).

Round Rock, which captured the Class 6A Division I girls state title and placed four players on the all-tournament team, including the game’s most valuable player Aiden Hernandez, along with Grace El-Deir, Audrey Redus and Phia Hull.

In Class 5A Division II boys, Pieper’s championship run was reflected with four selections, led by goalkeeper Nolan Masker, the game’s most valuable player, Blake Dildy, Landon Villarreal and Jack Blische.

Wimberley, which completed its redemption run to the Class 4A Division II girls title, had four players honored: Emma Durkin, Abby Durkin, Jordin Donaldson and Lilli Sandoval.

Class 5A Division I girls champion Smithson Valley placed four players on the list, highlighted by the game’s most valuable player Alondra Sanchez, Addison Briscoe, Grayson Heckendorn and Morgan Heintz.

Salado, the 4A-DI girls runner-up) earned three selections – Julia Aniol, Kinsey Yawn and freshman Brinlee Broussard – while semifinalist Comal Davenport added Kailee MacDonald and Abby Symon.

On the boys side, Marble Falls (a 4A-DI semifinalst) was represented by Noe Gonzalez and Ismayl Ismaylov following its semifinal run.

The region’s depth extended across nearly every classification.

Class 5A-I LASA placed two players – August Marsee-O’Neil and Jonathon Hernandez – while Vandegrift, a 6A-DII semifinalist, added Grant Teodecki and Ryder Atwood.

On the girls side, 6A-II semifinalist Dripping Springs had both Carson Thompson and Annabelle Pittman earn recognition after a deep postseason push.

The all-tournament selections serve as another data point in what was a defining weekend for Austin-San Antonio soccer.

With four titles – including Round Rock (6A-DI girls), Pieper (5A-DII boys), Wimberley (4A-DII girls) and Smithson Valley’s girls – along with multiple finalists and semifinalists, the Austin-San Antonio area delivered one of its strongest performances in modern history.
