San Antonio Brandeis stunned top-ranked Westlake 3-2 Tuesday night in a UIL Class 6A Division I area playoff at Chaparral Stadium, eliminating the Chaps and advancing behind a clinical second-half surge.

Brandeis (12-6-3) became the first team all season to score multiple goals against Westlake (20-2-3), using timely finishing and late defensive stops to secure the result.

After a back-and-forth first half, Westlake struck first in transition. Following a stoppage for an injured Brandeis player, the Chaparrals quickly restarted play while the Broncos were regrouping. Harrison Hoffman flicked a backheel to Yaniv Dajman, who finished past goalkeeper Daniel Anaya with 12:07 remaining.

Brandeis answered before halftime. Aidan Garza capitalized on a rebound and leveled the match with 3:24 left in the half.

The Broncos took control after the break.

Aidan Williams gave Brandeis a 2-1 lead with a long-range strike from the wing with 24:42 remaining. Aiden Carreon extended the advantage to 3-1, finishing a pass from Garza with 15 minutes left.

Westlake responded quickly, as Mateo Gorman cut the deficit to 3-2 just a minute later. The Chaparrals continued to press but were unable to find an equalizer.

Alex Tirado’s shot was blocked with eight minutes remaining, and Anaya made a key save on Gorman from the top of the box with three minutes left.

The final moments added late drama.

With 18 seconds remaining, Anaya was issued a yellow card for delay after holding the ball following a save, forcing him to leave the match. Brandeis held on through the final sequence to complete the upset.
