The 2026 Texas high school girls soccer season is nearly a month old, and early results are already separating contenders from the pack.
Some districts are approaching the midway point of district play, while the rest of the Austin-area districts begin league play this week.
This week, we spotlight 15 players making an early impact, district races worth tracking and five games you won’t want to miss.
First, here are our Week 2 rankings:

District races to keep an eye on
1. District 26-4A: This might be the strongest girls soccer district in South Central Texas. All but one of the seven teams carry winning records entering Tuesday’s district openers. Canyon Lake and Marble Falls are still unbeaten, while Wimberley and Davenport have each lost only once. New Braunfels Long Creek may be the wildcard. The Dragons are 4-1-2 in their inaugural season.
2. District 25-5A: District play began last week and two early heavyweights took losses: Hays and Liberty Hill. Leander opened with a win over Liberty Hill and could be a dangerous factor in the race. Liberty Hill dropped a 1-0 decision to Cedar Park but remains one of the district’s most talented teams. This race should tighten quickly.
3. District 26-5A: This district matters not only for the league title but because of the bi-district matchup with District 25-5A. Smithson Valley looks like a legitimate state contender, while Comal Pieper, New Braunfels, Boerne Champion and Alamo Heights are clustered together early. The Rangers face both Pieper and New Braunfels this week and can create separation with a strong start.
4. District 25-6A: Round Rock remains unbeaten, while Westwood and Vandegrift are riding winning streaks. This looks like a three-team battle for the district championship. The bigger question is the fourth playoff spot. Cedar Ridge, Hutto, Vista Ridge and McNeil are packed together in the early standings, with Cedar Ridge currently holding a slim edge.
5. District 26-6A: District play began last week, with Westlake still waiting to open league action. The Chaps may be the wildcard and have one of the area’s top goalkeepers in Martin. Dripping Springs and Lake Travis have started fast, while Austin High could be a sleeper. The Maroons face a major test this week with Dripping Springs on Tuesday and Westlake on Friday – two matches that should quickly reveal where they stand.

Comal Pieler (6-1-3) vs. Smithson Valley (10-0), 7:15 pm., Tuesday: The top two teams in District 26-5A meet in a key early district showdown.
Wimberley (8-1-1) vs. Marble Falls (8-0-2), 7 p.m., Tuesday: District 26-4A opens with a must-see matchup in the Hill Country as the Mustangs put their unbeaten start on the line against the Class 4A Division II state runners-up.
Salado (10-1) at La Grange (5-2-2), 7 p.m., Tuesday: The Eagles enter with momentum, but the Leopards are looking for a statement win in this important District 24-4A battle.
Austin High (3-1-2) at Westlake (4-1-2), 7:45 p.m., Friday: Austin High has started strong but faces one of its toughest tests of the season on the road against a talented Westlake squad.
Leander (6-3-1) at Cedar Park (6-1-2), 7:15 pm., Friday: A rivalry match with real stakes. Leander looks to make a statement against the defending Class 5A Division II state champions.
