Leander wide receiver Zane Wooldridge voted the Austin Sports Journal Football Player of the Week for Week 2

Leander wide receiver Zane Wooldridge was voted the Austin Sports Journal Austin-area Football Player of the Week for Week 2.

It was a close races with Wooldridge edging out Anderson wide receiver Ed Small by 87 votes. Both candidate received more than 96% of the total 2,500 votes cast. Wooldridge received 50.4% of the vote, while Small received 46.9%. Other candidates included Liberty Hill’s Kyle May, Buda Johnson’s Kael Hatnot and Cedar Park’s Trae Hill.

Woolridge had 161 yards on 9 catches with a touchdown in the Lions’ win over Hendrickson.

The Austin Sports Journal will hold votes each week for the football and volleyball players of the week throughout the season.

Voting for the Football Player of the Week will open every Monday and close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, starting September 3. The winner will be announced on Thursdays.
