While the home crowd kept Lake Travis High School’s Cavalier Dome rocking, the Lady Cavaliers’ biggest fans on Tuesday night were 13 miles down the road in an unexpected place.
Westlake High School.
Lake Travis fired on all cylinders and got a game-high 25 points from senior Riley Moore to defeat Bowie 62-43, handing the District 26-6A championship to their archrival Westlake.
The Lady Cavaliers win and the Lady Chaps 48-29 victory over Buda Johnson gives Westlake the district title outright for the first time since 2020.
Moore said the thought of helping out their rivals didn’t cross their mind.
“This was about us, it was an LT game (Tuesday),” she said. “This was a lot of us’ last home game, tonight was just about love, having fun and playing for each other.”
Lake Travis (26-9, 13-3) had nothing on the line except momentum heading into the playoffs, which begin on Monday.
The Lady Cavaliers will be the No. 3 seed from District 26-6A and will face District 25-6A second-place Cedar Ridge in a bi-district playoff. The Lady Raiders defeated Vandegrift Tuesday to secure the No. 2 seed.
Bowie (22-8, 14-2) will be the No. 2 seed from 26-6A and will play Vandegrift in a bi-district payoff next week. Times and locations of both playoff games were unknown Tuesday night.
Despite not having anything on the line, Lake Travis played some of its best basketball of the season.
Senior guard Claire Kolkhorst led a 17-point scoring barrage in the first quarter, scoring 11 of her 17 total points in the opening frame.
The Lady Cavs were hot from behind the three-point line in the opening minutes, hitting four total with two coming from senior Taryn Bussinger and two from Kolkhorst.
Bowie, on the other hand, was unable to keep pace with their opponent. The Lady Dawgs scored six points in the first quarter.
Sophomore guard Grace Guzman scored three of those points and the other three came from Micha Walton, who finished with a game high 17 points.
Guzman finished with 11 points, scoring nine from behind the three-point line.
The Lady Dawgs went on a few runs late in the game, but only came as close as eight points and trailed by as many as 22.
