The Bowie Bulldogs may be the hottest team in the Greater Austin metro area. The Bulldogs (20-8, 7-4 District 26-6A) on Friday avenged an early season loss to Buda Johnson, defeating the Jaguars 55-53 in Buda.
Mason Wasserbuger led the Bulldogs with 15 points and three rebounds and was 3 of 6 from behind the three-point line.
The win was Bowieโs fifth in a row and gave the Bulldogs a two-game lead over Dripping Springs in the race for the final playoff spot out of the district with five games left to play.
The loss puts Johnson a half-game behind Lake Travis for first place and a half-game ahead of Westlake for second place.
Westlake 55, Dripping Springs 34 (boys): Wonder Kahozi and Max Purushothaman each scored 12 points, while Gavin Paull added 11 to lead Westlake to a home win over Dripping Springs.
Westlake moves to 22-7 and 10-2 in District 26-6A. The Chaps can clinch a playoff berth with two wins this week, including Fridayโs game at home against Bowie.
Stony Point 56, Round Rock 51 (boys): Stony Point displayed its depth on Friday in a victory over visiting Round Rock.
The Tigers (27-1, 9-0 District 25-6A) were without nine players, including star forward Josiah Moseley. The players were suspended due to an altercation in Stony Pointโs game against Vandegrift on Tuesday.
Junior Goodlet and Davaughn Hueitt handled the workload for the Tigers. Goodlet scored a game-high 20 points, while Hueitt added 16.
Round Rock (17-10, 6-3) trailed for most of the game but did cut Stony Pointโs lead to one in the third quarter. However, the Tigers went on a 14-3 run to open the fourth quarter and never looked back.
Jason Ward led Round Rockโs offense with 18 points.
