Texas State (22-15) erupted for eight runs on just six hits and took advantage of nine walks to cruise past UTSA (19-19) in San Antonio.

Keely Williams set the tone early with a leadoff home run and finished 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three walks, while Aiyana Coleman added a two-run homer and drove in two more. Karmyn Bass chipped in a pair of hits and two RBIs as the Bobcats steadily built their lead.

Texas State broke things open with a three-run fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to take an 8-1 advantage.

In the circle, Maddy Azua (15-9) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits over five innings with five strikeouts. Analisa Soliz closed it out with two scoreless innings, striking out three.

UTSA managed just one run in the second inning and was held scoreless the rest of the way.

The Bobcats stay on the road this weekend with a three-game series against South Alabama (23-15, 7-2 Sun Belt). First game is scheduled for 6 p.m., Thursday in Mobile, Alabama.

Baseball: No. 2 Texas 10, Texas State 8

Texas State (19-9) traded blows with No. 2 Texas (24-4) but couldnโ€™t overcome a six-run sixth inning in Austin.

The Bobcats plated three runs in the first inning behind a solo home run from Rashawn Galloway and RBI hits from Jaquae Stewart and Ethan Farris. They added runs in the fourth and fifth, then rallied for three more in the seventh to briefly pull within one.

Manny Salas led the way offensively, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Galloway and Farris also homered as part of an 11-hit effort.

However, Texas broke the game open in the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits to turn a 5-3 deficit into a 9-5 lead. Ethan Mendoza keyed the inning with a two-run double and later added a home run in the eighth to provide insurance.

Texas State cut the deficit to 9-8 in the seventh, but couldnโ€™t complete the comeback. Braylen Timmins (0-1) took the loss in relief.

The Bobcats are home this weekend against Georgia Southern (10-19, 3-6 Sun Belt). Game 1 is scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Bobcat Ballpark.
