McNeil head coach Scott Hermes is leaving the Mavericks and taking the open head coach/athletic coordinator job at Glenn High School, as first reported by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
Hermes has been head coach at McNeil since the 2020 season, after serving as an assistant at Vandegrift under Drew Sanders. In his time with the Mavericks, Hermes coached McNeil to their first playoff appearance in 19 years in 2023 and then again in 2024. The Mavericks just missed the playoffs this season and was 6-4, but did beat the Vandegrift for the first time in school history.
The Glenn job opened in November when former head coach Brandon Krauskopf stepped down after five seasons.
Hermes takes over a Grizzlies program that has had little success since its first varsity season in 2018. Glenn has an all-time record of 32-52 and has made three playoff appearances.
There are currently five open head football coaching jobs in South Central Texas, including two within Round Rock ISD – McNeil and Stony Point.
