In a highly anticipated matchup between two of District 26-6A’s top teams, Westlake showed why the Chaps could be a dangerous team come February.

Texas signee Bo Ogden scored a game-high 31 points as the Chaparrals pulled away late to defeat Bowie 57-46 Tuesday at Westlake High School.

The game was tight throughout, with the Bulldogs (20-4, 1-1 District 26-6A) holding a 17-15 lead after the first quarter before Westlake responded to take a 28-26 edge at halftime.

The Chaparrals (18-5, 2-0) carried a slim 36-33 advantage into the fourth quarter, then took control with their best stretch of the night, outscoring Bowie 21-13 over the final eight minutes. Ogden scored 18 of his points in the second half.

Ogden, one of the state’s top recruits, set the tone offensively, scoring almost at will in the second half. Powell Frickenschmidt added 10 points, while Blake Cannatti finished with nine.

Bowie was led by Derrick Osobase’s 17 points. Luke Ashby and Josh Baskin chipped in eight points apiece, but the Bulldogs struggled to generate consistent offense in the second half after a fast start. A lot of that had to do with Westlake’s press defense in the fourth quarter.

The Chaparrals will travel to Lake Travis on Friday, while Bowie will host Akins. Both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
