COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M wasted little time, taking care of Campbell in straight sets Friday at Reed Arena in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Aggies (25-4) hit a blistering .419 as a team and defeated the Camels 25-20, 25-10, 25-13 in front of 5,830 fans.

Campbell (23-8) struggled to find any rhythm offensively, hitting .082 for the match. Abbie Tuyo led the Camels with nine kills, but A&M’s pressure at the net and from the end line forced 19 attacking errors.

Senior outside hitter Logan Lednicky led all players with 18 kills on 26 swings, hitting .654 and adding five block assists in a dominant all-around performance. Emily Hellmuth chipped in 10 kills on .667 hitting, while setter Maddie Waak dished out 29 assists as A&M overwhelmed Campbell from the service line and at the net.

“Right off the bat, Maddie [Waak] was putting up great balls for all of us tonight,” Lednicky said. “I think balanced offense is the best thing you can do for a volleyball team. A one-woman show won’t get you very far. By having us so balanced, it’s going to take us very far, and it’s nice, like (head coach Jamie Morrison) said to start right off the bat in the beginning of the tournament.”

Texas A&M’s victory sets up a rematch with Big XII champion TCU in Saturday’s second round game. The Horned Frogs defeated the Aggies in a five-set thriller on Sept. 10 in Fort Worth.

TCU (22-10) earned its place in the second round with a convincing 25-8, 26-24, 25-20 sweep of Stephen F. Austin (23-9) in the first match of the evening.

Sophomore opposite Evan Hendrix powered the Horned Frogs with a match-high 19 kills on .308 hitting while adding three aces and two blocks. Becca Kelley added 10 kills on .350 efficiency, and setter Ella Foti ran the offense with 20 assists as TCU hit .302 as a team.

SFA opened the second set with its best stretch of the match and pushed TCU late before the Frogs pulled away at 24-24 with a pair of points to take a 2-0 lead. From there, TCU controlled the third set behind balanced scoring and steady ball control.

The Lumberjacks were led by Ilana De Assis with nine kills, while Camryn Hill added eight, but SFA hit just .111 for the match and was unable to slow TCU’s tempo.

Saturday’s matchup features two teams that know each other well. Morrison said they aren’t the same team.

“I do not recognize that team (that played TCU) when I go back and do scouting,” Morrison said. “TCU is a really good volleyball team, they’re well coached, they have good athletes, but there’s no doubt in my mind we are a different volleyball team now than when we played them at their place, and we’ll have the 12th Man.”
