Vote for the Covert Ford Austin-area Athlete of the Week (11/3/25)

The Austin Sports Journal has partnered with Covert Ford to honor the top high school athletes in the Austin-San Antonio region each week during the high school sports season, 

The Austin Sports Journal will gather the top performances across our 13-county coverage area with the help of readers, coaches and staff. Then let our readers decide the top athlete for the week.  

Voting is open through noon, Wednesdays. The Austin Sports journal will announce the winner each week on our website and present the athlete of the week with a certificate.  

Coaches are encouraged to nominate athletes no later than 5 p.m., Sundays each week. Nominate players by emailing Michael Adams at madams@austinsportsjournal.com

Here are this week’s nominees:  

Eva Cragnolino, LASA cross country: The senior repeated as the Class 5A girls individual state champion at the UIL cross country state meet with a dominating performance, finishing the 5K race in 17 minutes, 47.1 seconds.

Claire Montgomery, St. Michael’s volleyball: In three matches last week, the senior outside hitter led the Warriors to a 3-0 record with 45 kills with a .289 hitting percentage to go with 13 service aces and 63 digs.

Lilli Sandoval,  Wimberley volleyball: The senior outside hitter had 15 kills with a .650 hitting percentage in the Texans’ playoff win over Manor New Tech. She also had four service aces and five digs.

Weston Nielsen, Bastrop football: The junior quarterback threw for 252 yards and six touchdowns in the Bears’ win over Pflugerville, completing 16 of 22 pass attempts (72.7 completion percentage) without an interception.

Tre Hill, Cedar Park football: The senior running back rushed for 202 yards on 21 carries (9.6 yards per carry) and scored three touchdowns in the Timberwolves’ win over Leander.

Jaiden Fields, Hutto football: The junior wide receiver caught 11 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns in the Hippos playoff-clinching win over Vista Ridge.
