The Austin Sports Journal has partnered with Covert Ford to honor the top high school athletes in the Austin-San Antonio region each week during the high school sports season,
The Austin Sports Journal will gather the top performances across our 13-county coverage area with the help of readers, coaches and staff. Then let our readers decide the top athlete for the week.
Voting is open through noon, Wednesdays. The Austin Sports journal will announce the winner each week on our website and present the athlete of the week with a certificate.
Coaches are encouraged to nominate athletes no later than 5 p.m., Sundays each week. Nominate players by emailing Michael Adams at madams@austinsportsjournal.com.
Here are this week’s nominees:
Caleb Crenshaw, Anderson football: The senior running back rushed for 234 yards on 28 carries (8.4 yards per carry) and scored a touchdown in the Trojans’ win over Hays. Crenshaw needs 250 rushing yards to set the AISD all-time rushing record as Anderson improved to 8–0.
Hudson Thigpen, Thorndale football: The junior rushed for 310 yards on 26 carries (11.9 YPC) and scored four touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ victory over Johnson City. One of the top individual rushing performances in Central Texas this season.
Cole Taylor, Pflugerville football: The senior quarterback threw for 344 yards and six touchdowns while completing 15 of 23 passes and no interceptions in the Panthers’ win over Crockett — one of the most efficient passing lines of the week anywhere in the region.
Jenna Hehman, Vandegrift volleyball: The senior slammed 27 kills and had a .254 hitting percentage in the Vipers’ win over Vista Ridge. She also had three blocks and five digs. On Tuesday, she had 20 kills and a .463 hitting percentage in a win over Hutto.
Lexi Rosenblatt, McCallum volleyball: You might be hard pressed to find an athlete that had the all-around week as Rosenblatt. The senior had 29 kills and a .500 hitting percentage in two matches to go with 42 assists and 20 digs. In the Knights’ win over Bastrop, she had a triple double of 16 kills, 17 assists and 13 digs.
