For the first time since 2019, the Lake Travis Cavaliers won the Battle of the Lakes rivalry game.

The Cavaliers (8-0, 4-0 District 26-6A) put on a brilliant performance Friday night and defeated Westlake 31-10 at Chaparral Stadium, their first road win in the series since 2015. The victory spoiled homecoming for the Chaparrals, who retired Drew Brees’ No. 15 prior to the game.

Lake Travis was led by two touchdowns from running back Vann Hopping and two passing tochdowns by quarterback Luke McBride to Westin Smith.

Westlake (6-2, 3-1) scored a late touchdown late in the first have on a touchdown pass to Braden Riddell from Rees Wise to cut the Cavaliers lead to 13-7. Hopping scored both of his touchdowns in the first half to give Lake Travis the six-point halftime advantage. The Cavaliers’ all-time leading rusher left the game in the third quarter with an ankle injury.

The win gives Lake Travis a clear path to the district championship with wins against Akins and Austin High. It will be the Cavaliers’ first district championship since 2019.
