HUTTO – Senior quarterback Kaden Stefek and junior receiver Jaiden Fields led the way as Hutto edged Round Rock 33-31 in a thrilling District 25-6A matchup Friday night at Hippo Stadium.
Fields turned in a breakout performance, finding the end zone three times and providing the spark the Hippos (5-1, 4-0) needed to stay in front during a game that featured big plays from both offenses. Stefek completed 14 of 24 passes for 276 yards.
For Round Rock (3-4, 3-2), junior quarterback Dov Stickler had a strong outing, going 19 of 23 for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Senior receiver Daniel Barry caught both of those scoring passes, finishing with 62 yards. On the ground, senior running back Brady Cochran rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.
Despite posting 370 total yards, the Dragons couldn’t overcome Fields’ explosive performance or the Hippos’ ability to convert in key moments. Round Rock’s late scoring drive cut the deficit to two, but Hutto’s defense came up with a stop to seal the win.
