Vandegrift overcome two turnovers, while the defense shut down an athletic Stony Point offense Friday as the Vipers defeated the Tigers 24-0 in the District 25-6A opener at Monroe Stadium.
Vandegrift (2-1, 1-0) took a 10-0 lead at halftime with the only touchdown coming fron a Sean Bradley in the first quarter. Stony Point (2-1, 0-1) had opportunities to score and made big plays on third down, but couldn’t find the endzone.
The Vipers defense held the Tigers to 189 yards, with only 53 yards on the ground. Junior running back Marcus Milligan rushed for 38 yards on 15 carries. He opened the season with a 166 yard, four touchdown performance in the season opening win over East View.
Vandegrift will have its bye week Friday and will travel to Gupton Stadium to take on Vista Ridge on Sept. 26. Stony point will host the Rangers Friday at Kelly Reeves Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
