Top five moments in the Battle for I-35

1. 2012: The first meeting
In the series opener, UTSA held off Texas State 38–31 at the Alamodome. The win gave the young Roadrunners program early bragging rights in what would become the I-35 rivalry.

2. 2020: Double-overtime thriller
One of the wildest games in UTSA history, the Roadrunners edged Texas State 51–48 in San Marcos. The Bobcats forced overtime with a dramatic late rally, but UTSA escaped with the win in double OT, cementing the rivalry’s reputation for chaos.

3. 2018: Alamodome nail-biter
UTSA squeaked out a 25–21 victory in San Antonio, holding off a late Texas State push. It was the closest home game in the series to date, decided by just four points.

4. 2023: Alamodome showdown before record crowd
Before 49,342 fans (the second-largest home crowd in UTSA history) the Roadrunners beat Texas State 20–13. The packed dome atmosphere underscored the rivalry’s growing intensity.

5. 2024: Bobcats’ breakthrough win
Texas State finally broke through with a dominant 49–10 victory in San Marcos. The lopsided win marked the Bobcats’ first in the series and set the stage for heightened stakes in 2025.
