Taylor Tracey, Dripping Springs senior

There was only one clear choice for the 2025 Mr. Austin Baseball award winner, and that was Taylor Tracy. The future Tennessee Volunteer had one of the best individual seasons by an Austin-area high school baseball player since arguably La Grange’s Homer Bailey in 2004. Tracey was the heart of Dripping Springs’ historic season and helped the Tigers reach the state semifinals for the first time since 1996. He had a perfect 10-0 record on the mound with a 0.38 ERA and111 strikeouts. He was just as dangerous at the plate, with a .445 batting average with 22 RBIs and a .562 on-base percentage.

Ty Thames, Wimberley, senior

Thames is a big football guy and helped the Texans football team reach the Class 4A Division II state semifinals in the fall. He’ll continue his football career in the fall with the Rice Owls. But something tells us that there’s potential for a college baseball career, too. The 2025 graduate helped Wimberley’s baseball team to a historic run to the Class 4A Division II championship game with a 0.84 ERA on the mound and a .352 batting average.

Maverick McAllister, Thrall senior

When the Tigers needed a clutch hit, their senior captain was a safe bet to provide one. The future West Texas A&M Buffalo, helped Thrall reach a state baseball championship game for the first time in nearly 30 years and in the school’s debut season in Class 3A. The 2025 graduate finished the season with a 13-2 record on the mound and a .327 batting average. He was the District 19-3A pitcher of the year.

Rising Star (top newcomer)

JP Kazmann, Round Rock junior

The first-year second baseman had a remarkable season for the Dragons, helping the team win the District 25-6A championship and reach the third round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs with a .371 batting average.

Wimberley head coach Jeremy Locke talks with the Texans after the Class 4A Division II UIL baseball state championship game on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas. (Michael Adams/Austin Sports Journal)

Jeremy Locke, Wimberley

Locke may have set the bar a little high in his first season as head coach of the Texans baseball program. Then again, there weren’t lofty expectations heading into the season. Still, Locke coached Wimberley to a Cinderella playoff run to the Class 4A Division II state championship game that was full of a lot of firsts – first time reaching the regional finals, state semifinals and playing for a state championship. It was the state championship appearance that pushed the Texans’ athletic department to winning the Class 4A Lone Star Cup over Celina by one-half of a point.
