The Texas State athletic department claimed their second straight Vic Bubas Cup, the Sun Belt Conference’s annual all-sports championship trophy.
It’s the third time in the last four years Texas State has won the cup and fourth time since joining the conference in 2013.
The Bobcats won five conference championships during the 2024-25 season, including the softball regular season title and volleyball tournament championship, while also winning women’s indoor and outdoor track and field and men’s outdoor track and field championships. Additionally, TXST finished in the top four in women’s soccer, football, men’s indoor track & field and women’s tennis.
“Winning back-to-back Bubas Cups is a significant achievement and a reflection of the dedication from our student-athletes, coaches, support staff, Texas State President Kelly Damphousse and university administration and our loyal Bobcat fans,” Texas State athletic director Don Coryell said in a press release. “We take pride in competing at the highest level in the Sun Belt Conference and nationally, and our commitment to excellence continues to grow. While we celebrate this season’s success, we’re already focused on the work ahead.”
Texas State earned 152.5 points to outpace Arkansas State (139) and Coastal Carolina (124). Louisiana (118.5) finished fourth, as Appalachian State (116) rounded out the top-five.
Texas State won the conference women’s indoor and outdoor track and field championship, the men’s outdoor track & field title and the volleyball tournament crown. The Bobcats were also the softball regular-season champions and tallied top-four league finishes in women’s soccer, football, men’s indoor track and field and women’s tennis.
The Vic Bubas Cup is named after the Sun Belt Conference’s first Commissioner. Bubas was appointed the conference’s commissioner on Oct. 6, 1976, and served for 14 years until his retirement in 1990.
Points for the Bubas Cup are awarded based on regular season finish for sports that have a regular season conference schedule. Points are awarded based on Sun Belt Championship finish if that sport does not have a regular season conference schedule. For sports that have both a regular season schedule and a conference tournament, one additional point will be awarded to the winner of the conference tournament.
