Third baseman Kylie Yeager will have a great story to tell her future kids one day.
With the game tied 10-10 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Yeager executed a suicide squeeze to perfection, plating Alexa Stout to win the TAPPS Division II state championship Monday at Allan Saxe Field at the University of Arlington.
Hyde Park (21-4) defeated Victoria St. Joseph 11-10 to win the schools first softball state championship. It was also sweet redemption from last year’s 10-1 loss to the Flyers in last year’s state championship game.
Freshman Alexandra Akins came in to relive Stout in the fourth inning and picked up the win in the circle. She also blasted a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Catcher Grace Parscal hit two home runs.
Hyde Park’s championship ended a near decade-long softball state title drought for the Austin-area. La Grange was the last team to win a state championship in softball, winning the UIL Class 4A state title in 2016.
