Meet the five finalists for the Austin Sports Journal’s Mr. Austin Soccer award

The Austin Sports Journal will reveal its 2025 All-Austin metro boys soccer team and awards on Monday, May 12.

We pool players from all 82 public and private high schools in our coverage area select all-area teams for Class 6A, 5A and 4A & others.

While the ASJ selects teams by classification, individual awards are selected regardless of classification. The ASJ gives awards for small school player of the year, rising star (newcomer of the year), goalkeeper of the year and coach of the year.

The top award, which the ASJ titled Mr. Austin Soccer, goes to the overall player of the year in the Austin area.

Here are the five finalists, selected byย Austin Sports Journalย President and Publisher Michael Adams:

The senior midfielder scored two huge goals to lead the Vipers to the schoolโ€™s first soccer state championship. ย He was named the Class 6A Division II state championship gameโ€™s most valuable player for his efforts against Mesquite. He was an Texas Association of Soccer Coachesโ€™ first team all-state selection.

The junior goalkeeper was a big reason the Panthersโ€™ went on an improbable run to the Class 5A Division II state championship game. Cardenas had 17 clean sheets this season, including three in the playoffs. He was a TASCO first team all-state  and UILL all-state tournament selection, as well as being an All-District 25-5A honoree.

Lozano led the Polar Bears in points with 57, which include 22 goals and 13 assists. The senior played every position on the field and helped lifted Austin Achieve to the schoolโ€™s first state title in any sport by scoring the only goal in the Class 4A Division II championship against Gainesville. He was named the gameโ€™s most valuable player.

The senior striker helped lead the Cavaliers to the Class 6A Division I regional finals. He led Lake Travis with 54 points, which included 24 goals and six assists. He was a TASCO first team all-region selection and the District 26-6A most valuable player.

The senior forward helped the Rangers reach the state semifinals for the first time since 2008. Mossholder was the District 25-6A most valuable player and led the team in points (78) and goals (38) and had two assists. He was an honorable mention on the TASCO all-state team.
