Thorndale’s Bethany Preusse will get another shot at state gold.
The sophomore thrower won the Class 2A Region IV championship in the shot put with a throw of 43-feet, 8 inches, qualifying her for the state meet for the second year in-a-row in the event.
Preusse also qualified for the second straight year in the discus. A state silver medalist in the event last year, Preusse finished second at the regional championship in Kingsville with a throw of 147-8.
Below are the Austin-area medalists at the Class 3A Region I and III meets and Class 2A Region IV meet.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify for the state meet on May 1-3 at the University of Texas’ Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin. The top time, distance or height among the four bronze medalists in the the event will get a call-up to the state meet.
Class 3A Region I
Girls
Automatic state qualifiers
Ciara Hays, Llano: Finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 8.5 inches.
Other medalists
Gretschen Grosch, Blanco: Finished third in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.49 seconds.
Class 3A Region III
Girls
Automatic state qualifiers
Kamree Wolridge, Lexington: Won the 200 regional championship with a time of 24.82 seconds. Also won the 400 regional championship with a time of 54.83 seconds.
Other medalists
Lexington: Finished third in the 4×100 relay with a time of 48.8 seconds.
Boys
Automatic state qualifiers
Jonathan Fuller, Rockdale: Finished second in the 3200 with a time of 10 minutes, 12.93 seconds.
Mason Biehle, Lexington: Won the long jump regional championship with a distance of 23-10.75.
Jakece McDaniel, Lexington: Finished second in the long jump with a jump of 22-2.
Kase Evans, Lexington: Finished second in the discus with a throw of 149-2.
Other medalists
De’Andre Stephens, Rockdale: Finished third in the high jump with a height of 6-6.
Class 2A Region IV
Girls
Automatic state qualifiers
Jackie Earley, Johnson City: Placed second in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. She ran the 1600 in 5 minutes, 22.32 seconds and the 3200 in 11:52.08.
Bethany Preusse, Thorndale: Last year’s silver medalist in the Class 2A discus, finished second with a throw of 147 feet, 8 inches. She was regional champion in the shot put with a throw of 43-8.

Kailyn Kleinert, Johnson City: Finished third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.70 seconds.
Boys
Automatic state qualifiers
Tristan Evans, Bartlett: Won the 800 regional championship with a time of 1:58.58.
Other medalists
Emery Gonzales, Johnson City: Finished third in the pole vault with a vault of 12-0.
