LOVB Austin knocks off top-seed Atlanta to reach League One Volleyball championship

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Fifth-seed LOVB Austin Volleyball continued its shocking run in the League One Volleyball playoffs.

LOVB Austin on Friday night pulled off its second consecutive reverse sweep and defeated top-seed LOVB Atlanta in the semifinals 21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-10, 16-14 and punched its ticket to Sunday’s championship match. 

That championship is scheduled for 3 p.m, Sunday and will be televised on ESPN2. LOVB Austin will face six-seed LOVB Omaha in the finals.

After pulling off a reverse sweep against No. 4 Salt Lake in Thursday’s quarterfinal round, Austin became the first team in League One Volleyball history to win five-set matches on back-to-back nights. 

Opposite side hitter Madisen Skinner led the way for Austin with 25 kills on a .364 attack efficiency, three aces and one block. Eighteen of her kills came in the final three sets, and she hit .485 in that span to spur on the Austin rally.

Middle blocker Molly McCage slammed 10 kills on a .625 attack efficiency and added two blocks and an ace. Fellow middle blocker Chiaka Ogbogu scored 13 points and outside hitter Logan Eggleston 12. 

Anna Haak led the team with 18 digs, libero Kotoe Inoue made 15 and Eggleston added 12. Austin hit .233 as a team. Setters Carli Lloyd and Saige Ka’aha’aina-Torres combined for 50 assists.
