The Texas high school women’s basketball regular season is down to its final six weeks. Some districts are nearing the midway point of the district season, while some of the small school districts are getting ready to start.
The women’s basketball “District of Doom” is still 25-5A. However, 26-4A is going to give it some competition.
All seven teams in 26-4A have records of .500 or above. Wimberley (16-3) has the best record overall, but Geronimo Navarro (17-7), Davenport (16-6), Bandera (16-5) and Fredericksburg (16-6) aren’t far behind. This will be a district race to keep an eye on.
District 25-6A could be interesting. Vista Ridge (17-3, 6-0) has a one-game lead over Vandegrift (18-7, 5-1). Round Rock (20-4, 5-2) is currently in third place, while Manor and Cedar Ridge are tied for fourth with 3-3 district records.
Class 5A is the area’s strongest classification, and 25-5A is the SEC of women’s basketball. Glenn (24-2, 4-0), Cedar Park (18-4, 4-0), Liberty Hill (23-2) and Hays (12-10) are all separated by one game.
Bastrop (23-2, 3-0) is the surprise of the season. The Bears are off to their best start in more than a decade. They will be challenged in 24-5A by Anderson and McCallum.
And of course, you can’t forget about Georgetown (21-3, 4-0). The Eagles return all five starters from last year’s team and have one of the best guard duos in the area, if not the state, in Bella Dabs and Reese Hoadly.
