Westwood, Wimberley to defend state titles at UIL state tennis tournament

The Austin area will be represented in each classification at this week’s UIL state team tennis tournament in Waco.

Defending Class 6A champion Westwood and 4A champion Wimberley will begin defense of their respective state championships on Wednesday during semifinal matches. Championship matches begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday at Baylor University.

Westwood is the No. 1 seed in the 6A state tournament and faces The Woodlands Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Waco Regional Tennis Center. The Warriors are looking to claim their third straight Class 6A state championship and fourth in the last five years.

Wimberley is the No. 4 seed in 4A and plays Canyon Randall in the semifinal at 8 a.m. at Baylor University.

LASA is making its third appearance in the Class 5A tournament. The Raptors are the third seed in 5A and opens the tournament against the team that beat them in last year’s state championship, Frisco Centennial.
