Weiss setter Takyla Brown, an LSU pledge, was voted the Austin Sports Journal Austin-area Volleyball Player of the Week for Aug. 19-24.
With 45.5% of the vote, Brown narrowly edged out Buda Johnson’s Brooklyn Myers (42%) for the honor. It was a close races as a total 36 votes made the difference. Other candidates included Liberty Hill’s Taylor Gaines (1.2%), Dripping Springs’ Henley Anderson (6.3%) and Austin High’s Riley Malloy (5.1%) .
Helped the Wolves win the bronze bracket of the Pflugerville ISD VolleyPfest and was named to the all-tournament team. She recorded her 3,000th career assist on Tuesday in Weiss’ loss to Austin High.
The Austin Sports Journal will hold votes each week for the football and volleyball players of the week throughout the season.
Voting for the Football Player of the Week will open every Monday and close at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, starting September 2. The winner will be announced on Thursdays.
