Austin High tops Buda Johnson to win VolleyPfest, Dripping Springs & Liberty Hill also win tournaments

PPFLUGERVILLE – Riley Malloy and the Austin High Maroons picked up their second tournament championship in as many weeks.

Austin High went unbeaten in nine matches, defeating former District 26-6A rival, Buda Johnson, in the championship match in straight sets (25–15, 25–16) on Saturday to win the Pflugerville ISD VolleyPfest Tournament.

The Maroons (20-1) have won 19 straight since dropping the season opener to San Antonio Cornerstone Christian, including, a nine-match sweep to win the Austin ISD Tournament last weekend.

Austin High had a couple of hiccups on their way to face the upstart Jaguars. Stony Point (8-11) held on to take the second set on Saturday morning’s quarterfinal match at Weiss High School. In the semifinals, San Antonio Madison also claimed the second set but the Maroons convincingly won the third set both times.

Malloy was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player, while Camille Presley, Claire Nelson and Harper Luthy were selected to the all-tournament team for Austin High.

Brooklyn Myers, Rileigh Butler and Zaniah Hoskins were Johnson’s representatives on the all-tournament team.

Buda Johnson (11-4) kept its upstart season going awith a pair of big wins on Saturday. The Jaguars swept Smithson Valley (25-17, 25-14) in the morning’s quarterfinal match before handing El Paso Eastwood its first loss of the season (25-20, 25-19) in the semifinals.

Dripping Springs wins Fraulein Volleyfest

The Tigers (22-0) defeated El Paso Franklin in the championship match to win the New Braunfels Fraulein Volleyfest Tournament. Dripping Springs won the Pearland Tournament last weekend.

Georgetown (19-1) took home third place and dropped its first match of the season to Franklin (25-27, 25-17, 25-20). The Eagles had an impressive three-set win over New Braunfels Canyon (25-16, 17-25, 25-13) in the quarterfinals.

University of Texas commit Henley Anderson was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player, while Callie Kruger was named most valuable libero, Christa Wilburn was selected as the most valuable hitter and Ashley Euston was picked as the most valuable blocker. Eloise Roffers and Sydney Lund were named to the all tournament team.

Addison Gaido and Reagan Ramirez were selected to the all-tournament team for Georgetown. Cedar Park won the silver bracket consolation trophy. Joy Udoye was also selected to the all-tournament team.

Liberty Hill stays unbeaten, wins Glen Rose Tournament

Liberty Hill (18-0) took down Wimberley (25-16, 28-26) in the semifinals Saturday afternoon and went on to defeat Lorena in the championship to win the Glen Rose Tournament. The Panthers went 8-0 on the weekend. UTSA commit Taylor Gaines was selected as the tournament’s most valuable player and Angelo State pledge Annie Witt was named to the all-tournament team.

Wimberley (12-2) lost to Melissa (25-19, 26-16) in the third place match. Laney Hennessee was selected to the all-tournament team.
