Readers’ choice: Liberty Hill’s Rylee Slimp voted top player in the area

The UCLA-bound outfielder received 36% of the votes in reader poll

The Austin Sports Journal asked readers last week who their choice was for the 2024 Miss Austin Softball award, given to the top overall player in the Austin area.

Of the five finalists chosen for the award, Liberty Hill senior Rylee Slimp was the reader’s choice with 487 total votes. The UCLA-bound outfielder received 36% of the 1,354 votes cast.

Slimp is one of five finalists up for the honor of being named Miss Austin Softball as part of the ASJ’s inaugural All-Austin Metro Softball Team. The full all-area team will be announced on Thursday, June 13.

Other finalists include Leander senior Madalyn Strader, Lake Travis freshman Julie Rodriguez, Thorndale junior Karis Ginn; and Hyde Park senior Skye Perez.

Strader received the second most votes with 360, while Ginn game in third with 206.

Here are the final results:

  • Rylee Slimp, Liberty Hill outfielder – 487 (36%)
  • Madalyn Strader, Leander shortstop – 360 (26.6%)
  • Karis Ginn, Thorndale pitcher – 206 (15.2%)
  • Skye Perez, Hyde Park shortstop – 151 (11.2%)
  • Julie Rodriguez, Lake Travis pitcher – 150 (11.1%)
