Meet the 2023-24 On the Sidelines Sports’ All-Austin Metro Girls Basketball individual award winners.

Offensive Player of the Year

Gianna Angiolet, Westlake

Classification: Senior

Position: Guard

Height: 5-9

Angiolet, the District 26-6A most valuable player, helped lead the Chaparrals the 6A-Region IV semifinals and the district championship. The senior guard played in 34 games and averaged 18.1 points per game and shot 41% from behind the three-point line, making 112 three-pointers. She also averaged 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game.

Defensive Player of the Year

Kennedy Carlyle, Cedar Park

Classification: Senior

Position: Forward

Height: 6-2

Carlyle was instrumental in the Lady Timberwolves’ third trip to the Class 5A state tournament in the last four years. The senior post made crucial blocks in the most opportune moments, including a big one in overtime of the 5A-Region IV championship game against District 25-5A rival Glenn. Carlyle averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks per game.

Rising Star Award (Top newcomer)

Maddie Broxterman, Vandegrift

Classification: Freshman

Position: Guard

Height: 5-6

The District 25-6A Newcomer of the Year was a crucial part of the Lady Vipers success in the  2023-24 season. Broxterman helped the team tie a school record for most wins (25) in a season, averaging 16 points per game. The freshman guard shot 82% from the free-throw line and 59% from the floor, while averaging 3 steals and 3 deflections per game. Broxterman was injured in Vandegrift’s bi-district playoff win over Bowie and missed the area playoff against Steele.

Sixth Man of the Year

Ahnna Breiner, Cedar Park

Classification: Sophomore

Position: Guard

Height: 5-7

Breiner, a first-year varsity player, had a big part in Cedar Park’s return to the state championship. In the Lady Timberwolves’ 5A-Region IV semifinal win over Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, the sophomore scored all eight of Cedar Park’s first-quarter points and finished with 12 total while coming off the bench. She played significant minutes as Cedar Park’s sixth woman all season. Breiner averaged 6.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2 steals per game in her reserve role.
