Offensive Player of the Year
Gavin Paull, Westlake
Classification: Senior
Position: Guard
Height: 6-0
Paull was the catalyst for the Chaparrals, who reached the regional quarterfinals and a share of the District 26-6A championship. The University of Tennessee preferred walk-on averaged 13.5 points per game and was tabbed the District 26-6A Offensive Player of the Year. Paull also averaged 2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Defensive Player of the Year
Dawson Meiske, Thrall
Classification: Senior
Position: Center
Height: 6-2
Meiske’s presence under the basket could be felt on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Thrall’s big-man put up two 20+ point performances in the Class 2A-Region IV tournament to propel the Tigers to their first trip to the UIL state basketball tournament. He averaged 10.4 points and 13.3 rebounds per game (6.7 offensive RPG). The postseason accolades poured in for the senior, who was named to the UIL 2A all-tournament team, TABC all-region team and the All-District 27-2A first team.

Rising Star Award (Top newcomer)
Anthony Phagans, Connally
Classification: Sophomore
Position: Guard
Height: 6-2
Phagans was tabbed the District 23-5A newcomer of the year, averaging 9.5 points per game on a young Connally team that reached the second round of the playoffs. The sophomore helped the Cougars to a 20-13 overall record and a third-place finish in a very competitive 23-5A. Phagans also averaged 1.6 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.

Sixth Man of the Year
DaVaughn Hueitt, Stony Point
Classification: Junior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-9
Stony Point’s sixth man came up big when the Tigers needed him. However, the junior hit the shot of his high school career in Stony Point’s regional semifinal win over San Antonio Brennan – a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to send the Tigers to regional championship game. Hueitt averaged 18 minutes, 4.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in reserve duty.
