Every so often, a generational talent comes along, breaks a few records and changes an entire culture of a program.

It’s rare that it happens simultaneously at two different schools.

Stony Point’s Josiah Moseley and Glenn’s Soma Okolo are those generational talents for their respective schools. And in 2023-24, Moseley and Okolo took the Tigers and Grizzlies basketball programs to new heights, earning them the titles of Mr. and Miss Austin Basketball, respectively, from On the Sidelines Sports.

Let’s meet our 2023-24 players of the year.

What more could be said about Moseley’s impact on the Stony Point basketball program. The No. 1 recruit in Texas for the Class of 2024 by 24/7 sports signed a letter of intent to play basketball at college basketball blue-blood Villanova in December.

The postseason accolades have been pouring in. He was named Mr. Texas Basketball by Dave Campbell’s Texas Basketball, was an all-region selection by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, an all-tournament pick for the UIL Class 6A boys state basketball tournament and the District 25-6A most valuable player.

Moseley helped Stony Point reach the state tournament for the first time in school history and it’s first appearance in a state championship game in any team sport. He also led Tigers to a district championship. He did so averaging 23.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 1.7 assists per game.

Okolo and the Grizzlies were mere seconds from reaching the UIL Class 5A girls basketball state tournament. The heartbreaking loss to Cedar Park in overtime in the regional finals will fuel one of the state’s top recruits in the 2024-25 season.

But one cannot ignore the historic season Glenn’s girls basketball team had with Okolo leading the way. The Grizzlies, ranked No. 6 in Class 5A, had their best season in the school’s eight-year history, setting a record for wins (30), winning the school’s first district championship in girls basketball and reaching the regional tournament for the first time.

Okolo, the District 25-5A most valuable player, played a big role in Glenn’s successes averaging a double double 21 points and 10 rebounds per game.

According to independent recruiting reporter Roual, Okolo has multiple Division I scholarship offers, including the University of California-Berkley, Indiana, Ole Miss, the University of Miami, SMU, Houston, and several more.
