Three newcomers join girls rankings; Leander, Round Rock maintain No. 1 spots

There are three newcomers this week in the On the Sidelines Sports Greater Austin Metro Area soccer rankings.

Buda Johnson and Weiss join our Class 6A Power 5 rankings. The Lady Wolves are undefeated in District 12-6A and hold a five-point advantage over Waco Midway in the standings with five games left to play.

Johnson took a one-point advantage over Lake Travis for first place in District 26-6A. The Lady Jaguars got a little help from Westlake, which upset the Lady Cavs 4-0 last week.

Lake Travis and Anderson both dropped out of the Class 6A rankings.

In Class 5A, McCallum moves up to No. 4 and Hendrickson sneaks into the No. 5 spot. LASA dropped out of the Class 5A rankings.

McCallum is in first place in District 24-5A and holds a narrow margin over LASA and Ann Richards in the standings.   

Giddings (11-0-3) and Round Rock (9-0-4) remain the only undefeated teams in the Greater Austin Metro area. The Lady Dragons kept the No. 1 spot in the On the Sidelines Sports weekly girls soccer rankings in Class 6A, while Giddings remains at No. 3.


Here is this week’s rankings:

Class 6A Power 5

1. Round Rock (11-0-4)

The Lady Dragons only had one game last week and rolled to a 2-0 win over Stony Point on Tuesday.  

2.  Westwood (10-2-3)

Goalkeeper Sam Walker, who committed to Rice this week, notched her fifth shutout this season as the Lady Warriors picked up a 3-0 win over Cedar Ridge on Tuesday.

3. Vista Ridge (10-4-3)

The Lady Rangers got back in the win column on Tuesday with a narrow 3-2 win over McNeil. Vista Ridge has Westwood coming to town on Friday.

4. Buda Johnson (8-4-1)

The Lady Jacgs played to a 1-1 tie with Anderson and defeated Dripping Springs 2-1 on Tuesday.

5. Weiss (8-5-1)

The Lady Wolves have won eight matches in a row and have done so in dominating fashion, allowing just one goal, which came in a 7-1 blowout of Temple on Jan. 30.

Class 5A/4A Power 5

1. Leander (15-1-2)

The Lady Lions played Rouse to a 1-1 tie this past Friday and blew out Hays 5-0 on Tuesday. Leander holds a 4-point lead in the District 25-5A standings.  

2. Georgetown (14-1-3)

The Lady Eagles beat Connally 6-0 and Pflugerville 7-1 last week. Since tying Hendrickson on Feb. 2, Georgetown has allowed one goal in its last five matches and scored 31 goals .

3. Giddings (13-0-3)

The Lady Buffaloes remained undefeated with two more shutouts by senior goalkeeper Faith Zoch, who has not allowed a goal since Jan. 19.

4. McCallum (13-2-1)

The Lady Knights beat LBJ and Navarro last week by a combined score of 16-0. McCallum has a chance to put more distance between itself and LASA on Tuesday.

5. Hendrickson (12-2-1)

The Lady Hawks extended their winning streak to six games last week with wins over Cedar Creek and Bastrop.
