With a little help from Round Rock, the Vista Ridge Lady Rangers broke up a three-way tie at the top of the District 25-6A standings and took over sole possession of first place.
Visiting Vista Ridge used a 40-point second half Tuesday night to defeat red-hot Vandegrift 53-37, ending the Vipers five-game winning streak.
Junior forward Kainna Wormley led the Lady Rangers with a game-high 18 points. She scored 16 of those in the second half. Junior guard Saylar Bourland added 10 and junior guard Abby Seitz scored nine for Vista Ridge.
Vandegrift (20-7, 6-2) was led by freshman guards Maddie Broxterman and Saania Khawaja, who scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Broxterman, the Vipersโ leading scorer, was held scoreless in the first half.
Vandegrift was coming off a pair of wins over Round Rock and Cedar Ridge and entered Tuesdayโs game in a three-way tie for first place with the Lady Rangers and Lady Raiders.
Tuesdayโs victory over the Vipers, combined with Round Rockโs win over Cedar Ridge, gives Vista Ridge sole possession of first place.
