Thursday playoff roundup: Wimberley rolls in playoff opener (w/scoreboard)

SAN ANTONIO โ€“ Senior Cody Stover had three touchdown passes and ran in another to will Wimberley to a 68-0 win over the Pearsall Mavericks (5-6) on Thursday in a Class 4A-Division II bi-district playoff at Harry B. Orem Stadium in San Antonio. 

The Texans (11-0) held a 27-0 lead after the first quarter. Stover started the scoring barrage with a 50-yard touchdown run. Moments later, he connected with Noah Birdsong for a 40-yard touchdown pass. 

Drew Drashear joined the scoring party with a 90-yard pick-six. A failed two-point conversion put the score 20-0 with under four minutes left in the first quarter. 

In the final minute, Stover found an open Owen Oโ€™Neal, who took it 30-yards for the score.ย 

Wimberley didnโ€™t let off the gas in the second quarter as Stover extended the Texansโ€™ lead to 34 points with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Ty Thames. Chase Carson and Colton Schmidt each added 15-yard touchdown runs and a fumble recovery for a touchdown sent the Texans into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable 54-0 lead. 

Wimberley added a pair of long touchdown runs of 50 and 60 yards in the second half to round out the scoring. 

The Texans advance to the area round and will play the winner of Raymondville-Orange Grove next week. ย

Boerne 42, Taylor 28: At Dripping Springsโ€™ Tiger Stadium, the Boerne Greyhounds (10-1) scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter on Thursday to defeat Taylor 42-28 in a Class 4A-Division I bi-district playoff. 

After trailing by seven at halftime, an interception by the Ducks (5-6) set up a touchdown run byu Joshua Mikulencak ran in a touchdown to tie the game at 27. Boerne, the favorite to win the Class 4A-Division II state championship, responded in the fourth quarter. 

Mikulencak completed 13 of 30 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions.
