Fresh off a sweep of Hendrickson in a district playoff to determine the top seed out of District 23-3A, Georgetown barely broke a sweat in their playoff opener on Monday.
The Eagles (33-15) took a little under an hour to defeat Crockett 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-10) in a Class 5A b-district playoff at the Delco Center in Austin.
“There wasn’t a better warm-up playoff game I could have scheduled (than Hendrickson),” said Georgetown coach Jenny Richardson. “Hendrickson is an athletic team, and seeing a team like that who can play both sides of the net and be athletic before the playoffs was good for us.”
Several of Georgetown’s starters sat out Monday’s playoff game, including leading hitter Addison Gaido, a 6-foot-5 junior.
Junior Sadie McCauley took over in Gaido’s absence, recording 12 kills and finishing with a .321 hitting percentage. Senior Kamryn Shelton added eight kills and finished with a .467 hitting percentage, while Allison O’Shaughnessy had five kills and a team-high .833 hitting percentage.
Defensively Molly O’Shaughnessy and Regan Ramierz combined for 32 digs. Ramierz had a match-high 21 while Molly O’Shaughnessy had 11. Ramierz also had a team-high four serving aces.
Isabella Casanova had 12 assists and Allison O’Shaughnessy had 11 for the Eagles.
Georgetown advances to the area round of the playoffs this weekend and will face the winner of Killeen Ellison-Montgomery.
