Week 5 of the high school football season is in the books, which means itโs time for the latest On the Sidelines rankings heading into the sixth week of the season.
Itโs time to rethink our rankings a bit. Dripping Springs, which has been absent from the rankings, is 3-1 and easily defeated Bowie on Friday. The Tigers’ only loss was to No. 2 Vandegrift in the season opener. We didnโt give that loss the respect it deserved. Dripping Springs makes its debut in the Central Texas football rankings and Hendrickson also returns.
The Hawks (3-1,1-0) got a big District 11-5A-1 win last week against Glenn. A real test comes this week as Hendrickson travels to Georgetown (2-2, 1-0). The Eagles upset A&M Consolidated in College Station Friday in a game that turned a few heads.
Westlakeโs win over Lake Travis secured the Chaparrals (4-0, 2-0) hold on the top spotโฆ for now. The loss dropped the Cavaliers (4-1, 2-1) two spots to No. 5 and elevated Weiss to No. 3 and Vista Ridge to No. 4.

Dropped out: Westwood (3-1), Hays (3-2)
Notable: Westwood was off last week and dropped out of the rankings. The Warriors could get back in next week with a win Friday against Cedar Ridge at Kelly Reeves Stadium. โฆ Haysโ stay in the rankings was short-lived. The Hawks (3-2, 0-1) looked unimpressive against Boerne Champion in their District 12-5A-I opener. Hays takes on Canyon this week in New Braunfelsโฆ It might be time to keep an eye on Elgin (3-2, 1-0). The Wildcats defeated Connally last week in the District 11-5A-II opener. Itโs still early, and Elgin still has games against Belton (5-0, 1-0) and Waco University (4-1, 1-0) on the schedule. The Wildcats play Belton on Friday in Belton.
Rising stock: Elgin, Georgetown, Rouse (3-1), Austin LASA (4-0), Thrall (4-1)
Falling stock: Hays, Connally (2-3), Bastrop (3-2), Anderson (2-3)
