Thursday night roundup: Late push lifts McCallum over Crockett, 37-22

McCallum trailed District 12-5A-II rival Crocket at halftime, but rallied to defeat the Cougars 37-22 in the district opener at House Park Stadium in Austin Thursday night. 

Crockett (1-2, 0-1) kicked an early field goal to take a 3-0 lead, but McCallum (2-2, 1-0) answered with a 5-yard touchdown run by Luke Dunham with two minutes left in the first quarter. 

Cougars quarterback Cameron Dickey responded with a 65-yard touchdown run to close the first quarter and give Crocket a 10-7 lead after a successful extra point attempt. Dickey pushd Crockett’s lead further with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Mclaughlin on the Cougars’ first possession of the second quarter. 

McCallum running back Drew Andrews cut Crockett’s right before halftime with a 6-yard touchdown run with 4 minutes to go. 


Andrews gave McCallum its first lead of the game on a 3-yard touchdown run and added a 7-yard score late in the quarter. A safety in the final minute gave McCallum a 30-16 lead going into the final quarter.  

McCallum plays LBJ next Friday at House Park, while Crockett will be in non-district action against Antonio Prep. 

Lake Travis 37, Akins 0 – Lake Travis Cavaliers scored 30 points in the first quarter and added seven before halftime to cruise to a 37-0 victory over Akins Thursday at Burger Stadium in Austin. It was the Cavaliers  (4-0, 2-0 District 26-6A) first shutout of the season. The victory sets up the Battle of the Lakes rivalry game with Westlake at Cavalier Stadium next week. 

Converse Judson 29, Hutto 19 – At Rocket Stadium in Converse, The Hutto Hippos scored 3 points in the first quarter as Judson went on a scoring barrage to hand the Hippos (1-3) their third loss of the season. It was Judson’s first win over a Central Texas opponent in three tries. 

Judson (1-3) scored 19 unanswered points before the Hippos got back on the scoreboard with a rushing touchdown late in the third quarter and converted a two-point try. 

The Hippos open District 12-6A action next Friday at Waco Midway. 

Lampasas 36, Connally 28 – At Cougar Stadium, the Lampasas Badgers held off a late push by Connally (2-2) to pick up the victory in non-district action. The Cougars trailed 14-6 at halftime and opened the second half by scoring 9 straight points to take a 15-14 lead over the Badgers (4-0) with 2 minutes left in the third quarter. 

Lampasas answered by outsourcing the Cougars 21-14 in the final stretch of the game. Connally opens District 11-5A-II play next week at Elgin on Friday.    

Pflugerville at Bastrop (Postponed) – Storms in the Austin area on Thursday postponed the Bastrop-Pflugerville game at BISD Memorial Stadium. Game rescheduling information was available.
