The Storyline

It’s the start of the District 25-6A season for both teams. Vista Ridge is off to its best start since the 2020 season, while Cedar Ridge has won two straight after losing its season opener to Cedar Park.

Last year, Cedar Ridge won a playoff tiebreaker despite losing to Vista Ridge in the head-to-head. That likely will be on the minds of Vista Ridge players as they hope to get the Rangers to a 4-0 start, their first since 2019.

A common opponent

Both teams have picked up wins over Bowie this season. Cedar Ridge defeated the Bulldogs 24-17 in week 2, while Vista Ridge picked up a 21-14 victory in the season opener.

Don’t expect a lot of points

Vista Ridge’s defense might be the focus Friday night. The Rangers are allowing an average 10.3 points per game. The Rangers secondary has five interceptions so far with one each from senior Josan Gains, senior Tavon Adams, junior Tanner Broise, senior Kade Nathman, and sophomore Amare Jordan.

Players to Watch

Vista Ridge: Senior quarterback Jackson Armot has completed 26 of 47 passes for 314 yards and 6 touchdowns. His favorite targets are Tian Murry (10 catches, 122 yards, and 1 TD) and Nathman (4 catches, 124 yards, 2 TDs). Gains and senior JD Jackson led Vista Rige’s rushing attack with a combined 225 yards and two touchdowns.

Cedar Ridge: The Raiders are a young team offensively. Junior quarterback Jack Pippen leads Cedar Ridge’s offense, which is averaging 21.6 points per game.

Our pick

Vista Ridge has some pretty impressive wins, including last week’s shutout of Shertz Clemens and a 28-17 victory over Georgetown. Cedar Ridge’s defense has allowed 26.3 points per game in its first three games. Expect the Rangers defense to be the stars Friday and cause a lot of problems for Pippen and the Raiders. Prediction: Vista Ridge 28, Cedar Ridge 7.
