About Us

The Austin Sports Journal is a digital media company that provides daily sports content to our readers. Our coverage expands over 86 high schools, four Division I colleges in the Austin-San Antonio metropolitan area and professional volleyball statewide. We are committed to being the area’s authority for local sports.

We present daily news through multiple platforms, including the Austin Sports Journal website, special publications, weekly newsletters and social media. We report news, features, and provide game coverage through multimedia channels to bring a full digial experience to sports in Texas’ capital city. Through these different mediums, we are able to reach a broader audience than that of traditional media.

Founded by former Austin American-Statesman sports journalist Michael Adams, the Austin Sports Journal has grown at a rapid pace since its launch in Sept. 2023, with one million monthly views.

Advertising Account Executive

Position Overview

The Austin Sports Journal is looking for Advertising Account Executives who are driven, competitive, and motivated by results. This role is ideal for self-starters who thrive in a fast-paced, performance-oriented environment while working collaboratively with leadership and teammates.

This position is designed to reward high performance from day one. Compensation includes a sign-on bonus and an uncapped commission structure, with an accelerated earning opportunity during your first 90 days.

Your earning potential is directly tied to your effort, consistency, and ability to close. There is no ceiling on what you can earn.

Job Responsibilities

As an Account Executive, you will own the full sales cycle and be responsible for creating and maximizing revenue opportunities. You will build and grow relationships with high-potential prospects while working closely with the publisher and sales leadership.

  • Prospect and generate high-quality leads using our established sales process
  • Meet and exceed monthly and quarterly performance metrics
  • Actively diversify and grow the client base by offering strategic advertising solutions
  • Develop and present customized, results-driven advertising proposals
  • Manage sales pipeline, forecasting, and revenue gaps using HubSpot
  • Continuously develop market knowledge and general business acumen
  • Cultivate relationships within the local business community through consistent networking
  • Demonstrate a coachable mindset and actively participate in training and professional development

Requirements

  • Sales experience preferred (media, marketing, or local B2B experience a plus); driven recent graduates encouraged to apply
  • Strong ability to think strategically, communicate effectively, and build relationships at all levels
  • Ability to identify both short- and long-term business opportunities
  • Organized, self-sufficient, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving, fully remote environment
  • Comfortable with proactive outreach, including phone, email, and in-person meetings with potential clients
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)

Compensation

First 90 Days:

  • 40% uncapped commission on all net sales
  • $1,000 sign-on bonus*

After 90 Days:

  • Option to remain commission-only at the 40% rate or transition to a $45K base salary plus uncapped commissions at 8% of net sales

Additional compensation includes quarterly and annual performance-based bonuses.

*The $1,000 sign-on bonus is paid in installments of $350, $350, and $300 over the first 90 days. To receive the full bonus, you must remain actively engaged and generate a minimum of one qualifying sale each month.
