Our final part of our UIL redistricting preview takes a look at the Class 3A and 2A schools from around the area.
The UIL released all the enrollments from UIL Snapshot Day last week, giving us a better look at the overall picture for the 2026–28 realignment and reclassification could reshape South Central Texas’ high school athletics. On Tuesday, we learned the classification cutoff numbers.
It was originally thought that Caldwell would stay in Class 4A. However, the UIL cutoff numbers for Class 4A tell a different story. Caldwell typically is placed in an Austin-area district, which makes the Hornets a perfect fit in District 19-3A.
Below are the Austin Sports Journal’s early projections for the new Class 3A and 2A districts for all sports other than football. Football projections will be addressed separately. These alignments are speculative, but projecting realignment is part of the fun.
Class 3A
Region I
District 5-3A
Blanco (349)
Florence (348)
Ingram Moore (444)
Llano (509.5)
Comfort (327.5)
Our take: We don’t see this district changing, with the exception of current district member Brady dropping to Class 2A. However, it could possibly move to Region IV and adding a school from the San Antonio area. If that happens, look for Llano and Florence to move north and Blanco, Comfort and Ingram Moore to move into a San Antonio area district. Without that happening, this stays in West Texas as a five team district.
Region III

District 19-3A
Caldwell (532.5)
Franklin (435)
Cameron Yoe (441)
Lexington (301)
Little River Academy (544)
Rockdale (432)
Rogers (254)
Thrall (294)
Our take: Caldwell fits perfectly in this district due to its proximity to Lexington, Rockdale and Thrall. In fact, all eight schools sit along or just off the Highway 79 and Highway 21 corridors, creating a geographically sound district that is just adding a new member.
Region III

District 26-3A
Smithville (531.5)
Columbus (515)
Schulenburg (250)
Hallettsville (369)
Yoakum (459)
Luling (392)
Hempstead (456)
Our take: This form one of the most geographically sound districts in the state, anchored along the Colorado River, Highway 71 and Highway 77 corridors. Smithville’s move down slots cleanly into this group, eliminating awkward travel and creating a seven-team district that feels practical.
Class 2A
Region IV
District 26-2A
Bartlett (125)
Granger (188)
Holland (173)
McDade (115)
Milano (121)
Rosebud-Lott (232)
Thorndale (222)
Johnson City (225)
Our take: This district doesn’t change much, but we think Johnson City could be moved into it to make it an eight team district. Rosebud-Lott would only be in this district for some sports, not all, which is how it’s been the last two seasons. Even if Johnson City stays west, there’s not many teams that could be added.
District 27-2A
Center Point (155)
Goldthwaite (152)
Harper (163)
Junction (156.5)
Mason (194)
San Saba (197)
Our take: The 2A landscape is a bit different than other classifications. There’s not a lot of places schools can go that don’t create logistical nightmares.
District 28-2A
Bloomington (215)
Flatonia (199)
Ganado (217)
Louise (143)
Shiner (201)
Weimar (214)
Our take: This district stays the same, but loses Schulenburg.
