In a special episode of “Between the Lines with Michael,” we talk to Malloy about her time at Austin High, what she would tell her younger self and what it’s like to close out her career in a state championship.

Riley Malloy is used to standing out in a crowd.

The 6-foot-5 outside hitter is hard to miss when she walks the halls at Austin High School, towering over many of her classmates – and even her teammates on the Maroons volleyball team.

Yet, it might be weird to consider that someone with Malloy’s presence could sometimes get lost in the shuffle in a volleyball talent hot bed that includes Texas signee Henley Anderson from Dripping Springs, Stanford signee Joy Udoye at Cedar Park and a plethora of Division I college talent right in her backyard.

It played to her advantage throughout her storied high school career with the Maroons.

Malloy will graduate Austin High next month and head to Los Angeles in January to enroll in the Uniersity of Southern California and join the Trojans volleyball team for spring practice.

But before the City of Angels comes calling, Malloy will take the spotlight on the grandest stage of them all Saturday in the UIL Class 6A Division II volleyball state final at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.

Malloy and the Maroons (41-6) face Southlake Carroll in the championship match with a chance to bring home the school’s first volleyball state title since 1992.
