Vote for the Covert Ford Austin-area Athlete of the Week (9/29/25)

The Austin Sports Journal has partnered with Covert Ford to honor the top high school athletes in the Austin-San Antonio region each week during the high school sports season, 

The Austin Sports Journal will gather the top performances across our 15-county coverage area with the help of readers, coaches and staff. Then let our readers decide the top athlete for the week.  

Voting is open from 3 p.m., Mondays through 10 p.m., Tuesdays. The Austin Sports journal will announce the winner each week on our website and present the athlete of the week with a certificate.  

Coaches are encouraged to nominate athletes no later than 5 p.m., Sundays each week. Nominate players by emailing Michael Adams at madams@austinsportsjournal.com

Here are this week’s nominees:  

Wade Allen, Westwood, football: The senior rushed for 293 yards on 18 carries (16.3 ypc) and scored four touchdowns in the Warriors’ win over Manor. 

Trae Hill, Cedar Park, football: The senior carried the Timberwolves with 220 rushing yards and five touchdowns in a dominant win over Chaparral. 

Nico Anderson, St. Michael’s, football: The junior put up monster numbers with 368 passing yards and five touchdowns, completing 36 of 49 passes without an interception. 

Kingsley Minus, New Braunfels, volleyball: The senior setter had a triple-double in the Unicorns win over Boerne Friday with 12 kills (.476 hitting percentage), 14 digs and 17 assists. In last Tuesday’s win over Alamo Heights, she had a double double with 15 kills (.437 hitting %) and 20 assists.  

Trinity Laney, Wimberley, volleyball: The freshman outside hitter had an impressive showing in the Texans’ win over state-ranked Davenport with 20 kills (.429 hitting %) , three aces and 20 digs. In last Tuesday’s win over New Braunfels Long Creek, she had 12 kills (.647 hitting %) and five digs.
