From staff reports

Arizona State used a dominant second quarter and explosive plays to hand Texas State a 34–15 loss Saturday night at Mountain America Stadium.

The Bobcats (2–1) kept pace early after trading first-quarter field goals, but the Sun Devils (2–1) seized control in the second quarter. Quarterback Sam Leavitt threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jordyn Tyson, then added a 1-yard scoring run to build a 17–3 lead. Kicker Jesus Gomez added two field goals before halftime as Arizona State carried a 20–3 advantage into the locker room.

Leavitt finished 15 of 25 for 188 yards and two touchdowns while adding 59 yards and a score on the ground. Tyson led all receivers with six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. Running back Raleek Brown punctuated the Sun Devils’ night with a 75-yard touchdown sprint in the third quarter, part of his 144-yard performance on just 12 carries.

Texas State quarterback Brad Jackson fought through five sacks to complete 25 of 36 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on a 7-yard run late in the third quarter. Running back Lincoln Pare paced the Bobcats’ ground game with 61 yards on 13 carries. Kylen Evans hauled in Jackson’s lone passing score, a 3-yard reception in the fourth quarter.

Despite posting 21 first downs and nearly 30 minutes of possession, the Bobcats were undone by turnovers and missed chances, including two lost fumbles and a missed field goal before halftime.

Arizona State finished with 433 total yards to Texas State’s 303, including a 245–119 edge on the ground.

The Bobcats return home next week to face former Southland Conference rival Nicholls State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
