UTSA showed flashes of promise but couldnโ€™t keep pace with No. 19 Texas A&M, falling 42-24 in front of a record 107,521 at Kyle Field on Saturday.

The Roadrunners (0-1) showed signs of life with a balanced offensive effort, gaining 203 yards on the ground and 170 through the air. However, UTSA was undone by explosive plays and special teams miscues.

A&Mโ€™s KC Concepcion broke the game open in the first quarter with an 80-yard punt return touchdown, setting the tone for the Aggies.

Senior running back Robert Henry Jr. rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, including a 75-yard sprint early in the third quarter that briefly pulled the Roadrunners within 21-17. The performance was one yard shy of his career best and marked his third straight game with multiple rushing scores.

Quarterback Owen McCown completed 19 of 32 passes for 121 yards without a turnover, while redshirt sophomore Brandon Tennison made his debut in the fourth quarter. Tennison went 2 for 2, including a 34-yard touchdown strike to AJ Wilson in the gameโ€™s final seconds, which was the longest pass of the night for either team.

UTSAโ€™s defense, however, struggled to contain Aggie quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns. Mario Craver caught eight passes for 122 yards and two scores, while Concepcion added a 31-yard touchdown reception to his special teams highlight.

Linebacker Shad Banks Jr. led the Roadrunners with seven tackles in his UTSA debut, while punter Caile Hogan averaged a career-high 50.5 yards on eight punts, including a 59-yarder.

The Aggies (1-0) outgained UTSA 399-373 and capitalized on short fields, scoring touchdowns on drives of 63, 67, and 29 yards. UTSAโ€™s 373 total yards were a marked improvement from their 231-yard showing against Texas A&M in 2019, but the Roadrunners saw their 23-game sack streak snapped and failed to record a turnover for the first time since 2023.

Despite the loss, UTSA extended its streak of scoring 20 or more points to 11 straight games. The Roadrunners return home next week looking to even their record before diving into conference play.
