The Austin Sports Journal will reveal its 2025 All-Austin Metro baseball teams and awards this Thursday.
We pool players from all 84 public and private high schools in our coverage area and select three all-area teams by classification – one for Class 6A, one for 5A and one for 4A & others.
While the ASJ selects teams by classification, individual awards are chosen regardless of classification.
The ASJ gives awards for rising star (newcomer of the year), offensive and defensive player of the year, pitcher of the year and coach of the year. We also select a small school player of the year, awarded to the top player from an area school in Class 4A and below.
The top award, which the ASJ titles Mr. Austin baseball, goes to the overall player of the year in the Austin area. Here are the five finalists, selected by Austin Sports Journal President and Publisher Michael Adams:

Taylor Tracey, Dripping Springs: The future Tennessee Volunteer had one of the best individual seasons by an Austin-area baseball player in modern history. The 2025 graduate helped the Tigers reach the Class 6A Division II semifinals this spring with an impressive 0.38 ERA and a perfect 10-0 on the mound.

Ty Thames, Wimberley: Thames is heading to Houston to join the Rice football team this fall, but don’t rule out a baseball career with the Owls. The 2025 graduate helped Wimberley to a historic run to the Class 4A Division II championship game with a 0.84 ERA on the mound and a .352 batting average.

Maverick McAllister, Thrall: The Tigers’ ace is headed to Canyon in the fall to join the West Texas A&M baseball team. The 2025 graduate helped Thrall reach its first state championship game in nearly 30 years. He finished the season with a 13-2 record on the mound and a .327 batting average. He was the District 19-3A pitcher of the year.

Chris Alsobrooks, Round Rock: Last year’s Austin Sports Journal offensive player of the year, helped the Dragons reach the third round of the playoffs and a share of the District 25-6A championship. He finished with a .383 batting average with 33 RBIs. The 2025 graduate will play for San Jacinto College next spring.

Cooper Webb, Lake Travis: A junior, Webb was the Cavaliers’ ace this spring and helped the team reach the Class 6A Division I state semifinals. The future Texas Longhorn was 8-1 on the mound with a 0.79 earned run average and had 73 strikeouts.
