It’s been a wild week for Texas high school football coaching changes in the Austin metropolitan area with another high-profile job opening,
Reports circulated Thursday that Liberty Hill athletic director and head football coach Kent Walker was going to be named the new head coach/athletic director at Blanco High School, pending approval on May 19 at the Banco ISD Board of Trustees regular meeting.
Walker will take over for Jamie Dixon, who left Blanco in March for a similar position at Edna High School.
Walker took the reigns at Liberty Hill during the 2020 playoffs after the after the death of his brother Jeff Walker, who died Dec. 1, 2020 after a longtime battle with cancer. The Panthers reached the Class 5A Division II semifinals that season.
‘Kent Walker had a 39-14 record in his five years at Liberty Hill. His teams made the playoffs each year and made three trips to the Class 5A Division II semifinals and an appearance in the 2021 Class 5A Division II state championship game. He also won two district titles as head coach.
This coaching move was the fourth in the Austin-area in the past two weeks.
It was reported Wednesday that Weiss head coach Vernon Hughes was taking the head coaching job at Mesquite Horn. Last week, Elgin head coach Heath Clawson took the head coaching job at Woodville and Wimberley head coach Doug Warren announced his retirement.
