A two-run home run by junior Ella Smith and a commanding performance by sophomore pitcher Julie Rodriguez set the tone for the Lake Travis Cavaliers Thursday night.
After a 30-minute rain delay, Lake Travis (20-9-1) took an early 2-0 lead after Smith’s home run in the second inning and went on to defeat Round Rock 6-0 in a Class 6A Division I softball bi-district playoff game.
The victory advances the Cavaliers to the area round where they will face either San Antonio Brennan or San Antonio Reagan.
Rodriguez was near flawless in the circle. She pitched her fourth shutout of the season, giving up four hits and striking out 10 batters.
Senior Maddie Pinzon hit a solo home run as part of a two-run sixth inning and the Cavaliers added two more in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Senior Regan Moore was 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and runs scored, while fellow senior Haley Whitfield was 1 for 4 with one RBI.
