The Austin Sports Journal will reveal it’s 2025 All-Austin Metro girls basketball team on Thursday, March 20. We pool players from all 80 public and private high schools in our coverage area and select first- and second teams for Class 6A, 5A, and 4A & others.
While the ASJ selects teams by classification, individual awards are selected regardless of classification. The ASJ gives awards for offensive and defensive players of the year, rising star (newcomer of the year), small school player of the year and coach of the year.
The top award, which the ASJ titled Miss Austin Basketball, goes to the overall player of the year in the Austin area. Here are the five finalists, selected by Austin Sports Journal President and Publisher Michael Adams:

Maddie Broxterman, Vandegrift, sophomore guard: Broxterman was an integral part of the Vipers’ run to the regional semifinals. She reached the 1,000 point career milestone and broke a Vandegrift record for points in a season with 665. She averaged 17.7 points per game and was the District 25-6A offensive most valuable player.

Melayna Perkins, San Marcos, junior forward: Perkins helped the Lady Rattler reach the regional finals for the first time since 1992. She averaged 10.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and was a first-team All-District 29-6A first team selection.

Reese Hoadley, Georgetown, senior guard: Hoadley was a UIL all-state tournament selection and the District 23-5A most valuable player. She helped the Lady Eagles reach the Class 5A Division I semifinals, averaging 23.0 points per game and shot 62% from inside the three-point line.

Gabby Mundy, Liberty Hill, senior guard: Mundy helped the Lady Panthers reach the Class 5A Division II state championship game and was selected to the all-tournament team. She was the District 25-5A offensive most valuable player and average 18 points per game.

Somo Okolo, Glenn, senior center: Okolo helped Glenn reach the postseason and repeat as District 25-5A champions. The Grizzlies lost to eventual Class 5A Division II finalist San Antonio Wagner in the playoffs. The future Miami Hiurricane averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds per game and was the district most valuable player. She was the ASJ’s 2024 Miss Austin Basketball.
